Also feeling the love is Blake’s co-host Reba, whose “When Love Gets A Hold Of You” moves to No. 57. Other show performers Martina McBride and Dierks Bentley fare well, with McBride’s “Teenage Daughters” moving to No. 27 and Bentley’s “Am I The Only One” jumping to No. 34.
After a short break, Gloriana is back on the chart with an uptempo tune called “Wanna Take You Home,” landing at No. 75. Radio Veteran Coyote McCloud Dies

Coyote McCloud 1943-2011

Music City radio icon Coyote McCloud died Wednesday afternoon, April 6 at age 68.
A veteran of the Nashville airwaves for more than 30 years, McCloud’s slogan when he broadcast pop oldies was, “He played them when they were new.”
He served on-air stints at WMAK, WYHY, WZPZ and WRQQ. He was also the first off-camera voice of CMT. One of his best-known jobs was as the leader of “The Zoo Crew” on Y107. As such, he was profiled on the CBS-TV show 48 Hours in an episode about radio’s so-called “shock jocks.”
He was also notable as the host of “Coyote and Cathy in the Morning” on WMAK-FM and WRQQ. That show ended in 2006.
Coyote McCloud died of cirrhosis of the liver at home on his houseboat on Percy Priest Lake. Ex-wife Susan Thomas, a former Tennessean newspaper reporter, was by his side with his dog Sawyer Black. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

McCloud wrote the 1984 hit song "Where's The Beef?," a play on the Wendy's slogan

Darius Rucker’s “This” gets to enjoy a second week in the CountryBreakout Chart’s No. 1 spot, but it may not be for much longer. Miranda Lambert’s “Heart Like Mine” is pouring it on, adding 165 spins to move 4-2 and in excellent position to take the top spot next week. Possible threats to her ascent come courtesy of Rascal Flatts’ “I Won’t Let Go” at No. 4, and Ronnie Dunn’s “Bleed Red” which is already at No. 5 despite only being nine weeks old.
Reba joins the list of stars rolling out new singles for spring/summer airplay, as her latest “When Love Gets A Hold Of You” joins the chart at No. 74. Jake Owen’s “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” hits right behind at No. 76 with a big gain of 182 spins. Raking in the week’s biggest spin gain is Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl,” which scoops up 518 new spins and jumps nearly 20 spots to No. 35.
Also joining the chart are Tommy Steele’s “What Kind of Man Would I Be” at No. 75, Bridgette Tatum’s “Hillbilly Rock Star” at No. 79, and Edens Edge’s “Amen” at No. 80.

SPIN ZONE
Thompson Square is just plain hot. The Stoney Creek duo has now spent three weeks on top of the CountryBreakout Chart with “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” racking up some impressive sales figures in the meantime. They’re looking like early breakout stars for 2011. Darius Rucker’s “This” moves to the No. 2 spot, followed by Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather” at No. 3. Closing out the Top 5 are Miranda Lambert’s “Heart Like Mine” and Rascal Flatts’ “I Won’t Let Go,” both gaining over 200 spins to make significant moves.
A superstar’s work is never done, apparently. To wit, a big section of the format’s platinum artists are currently unrolling hot new singles with big results. Brad Paisley’s “Old Alabama” (No. 50), Martina McBride’s “Teenage Daughters” (No. 69), Trace Adkins’ “Just Fishin’” (No. 72) and Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl” (No. 79) all debuted this week with zero prior reports. Also debuting is new Columbia artist Bradley Gaskin’s “Mr. Bartender” (No. 75), Leah Seawright’s “On The Backroads” (No. 76), and Frankie Ballard’s “A Buncha Girls” (No. 77).
Colt Ford’s “Country Thang” has climbed to No. 58 after only three weeks. His previous single “Chicken & Biscuits” peaked at No. 48 after a longer trek up the chart, so it appears he’s gaining some acceptance among programmers. Ford’s Average Joe’s labelmate Corey Smith just released his single “Twenty One” earlier in the week, and already some stations have hopped on board. Look for that one to make its official debut very soon.

White House Pushing For Radio Performance Royalty

The Obama Administration is pushing for legislation to ensure artists are paid when their sound recordings are played over the radio. The recommendation came earlier this week as part of a white paper released by White House U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Victoria Espinel. The 20-page memo was sent to Congress.
This ongoing debate about the performance royalty has been a hot-button issue in the music business in recent years. Radio stations and their trade group the National Association of Broadcasters have been fighting the royalty, arguing that playing the artist’s music is free advertisement for the act, which in turn drives sales. Meanwhile, record labels and artists have been arguing to have the performance royalty instituted, arguing that without music to play, radio stations wouldn’t attract as many listeners.
Another key point in the new white paper, is a recommendation to make illegal streaming a felony offense.
