Arrest warrants were issued yesterday (4/2) in Lorena, Texas for country singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver who shot a man outside a bar on Saturday night (3/31). He is charged with aggravated assault and possessing a firearm in a prohibited place. Shaver’s attorney, Joseph Turner, says that an intoxicated and aggressive stranger with a knife followed the singer into the bar’s parking lot and Shaver shot him in self-defense. The man was shot in the cheek and remains in stable condition. Shaver, known for the hit “Georgia on a Fast Train,” tried to turn himself in to Austin police on Monday night but was unsuccessful because they didn’t have a record of the warrants. Shaver’s Greatest Hits album is in stores today on Compadre Records/Music World Entertainment. He has penned songs recorded by Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Bob Dylan and The Allman Brothers Band, to name a few.
