Paul Davis

Paul Davis died yesterday morning, April 22, of a heart attack in his hometown Meridian, Mississippi. He turned 60 years old on Monday (4/21) and was famed for such pop hits as “I Go Crazy” (1977), “Ride 'Em Cowboy” (1974), “Sweet Life” (1978), “’65 Love Affair” (1982) and “Cool Night” (1981).

Davis also became a successful Nashville songwriter for others:

Jessica Simpson in Nashville

Columbia Nashville’s Jessica Simpson is in town writing and recording for her upcoming country album. While taking a break from the studio, Simpson joined Sony BMG Nashville executives for a private dinner at local hot spot Watermark. Simpson’s lead-off single is expected to hit radio this summer.

Aldean and Anderson Perform on Opry Live

Rising country music star Jason Aldean got the chance to sing with longtime influence and hero John Anderson when the two performed “Black Sheep” on Opry Live. Aldean covers “Black Sheep” in his show on the Relentless ’08 tour and invited Anderson to close the show with his 1983 No. 1 hit.

Emerson Drive Help Kick-off Nashville Film Festival

Emerson Drive attended the opening of the Nashville Film Festival (NaFF) last night (4/17) to premiere a self-produced short film promoting its “DING! You Are Now Free to Create a Film” contest, in conjunction with Southwest Airlines and the NaFF. The contest winner will receive two roundtrip tickets to Las Vegas, 3 nights at the MGM Grand, 2 tickets to the 43rd Annual ACM Awards, and a meet and greet with the band. The band met William H. Macy last night, attending the festival to promote his film The Deal.

Anderson treated guests to an intimate acoustic set, which included the current Top 30 hit “I Still Miss You,” chart-topper “Lost In This Moment,” and new track “Somebody Needs A Hug.” C’MON! hits the streets June 24.

Toby Teams With Montgomery Gentry For Tour
