Country Stars Line-up For Soundtrack to Billy Graham Biopic
Sarah Skates – 08/26/2008
The October 7 release of Billy: The Early Years, the original motion picture soundtrack to the Reverend Billy Graham biopic, will include 13 songs by a variety of hit-making artists from the worlds of country, gospel, contemporary Christian music, and beyond. Released by Arista Nashville and Essential Records, Billy: The Early Years was helmed by album producer Anastasia Brown.
Brooks & Dunn join Third Day’s Mac Powell to open the film and soundtrack with a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Over the Next Hill,” produced by Tony Brown with Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, who also produced or co-produced four of the album’s tracks. Sara Evans delivers the album’s first single, “Low,” which goes to country radio in late September.
Michael W. Smith, a personal friend of the Reverend Graham, performs “Amazing Love” with season six American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle. Among other tracks, Patty Griffin gives voice to the beautiful “Ruth’s Prayer,” a poem written by Graham’s late wife, Ruth Bell Graham, and set to music by Alan Jackson. Jackson himself sings “Look at Me,” written by Jim Collins and Paul Overstreet, while Griffin’s songwriting appears on the soundtrack in the form of “Heavenly Day,” recorded by GMA Dove Award New Artist of the Year Brandon Heath. Brad Paisley provides an instrumental rendition of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
Making his film debut when the movie opens Oct. 10 is Josh Turner, playing the role of Gospel Music Hall of Fame member and longtime Graham musical partner, George Beverly Shea. Turner’s rendition of the gospel classic, “Almost Persuaded,” is featured on the soundtrack. Also contributing to the album and the film is sixteen-year-old bluegrass star Sierra Hull, who portrays Graham’s sister, Catherine, as a young woman. The album includes Hull’s performance of “Just as I Am,” joined by an all-star choir.
Also appearing on the project are Roy Orbison, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Gregory Page, and newcomer China Edelman, accompanied by Sam Bush on mandolin for the Buddy & Julie Miller composition, “Shelter Me.”
The Marty Stuart Show Coming In November
Sarah Skates – 08/26/2008
Marty Stuart
Marty Stuart is set to begin production on a new television series next month for RFD-TV, also home to Crook & Chase, and Ralph Emery LIVE. The 30-minute episodes, hosted and produced by the four-time GRAMMY winner, will feature music by Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives, his wife Connie Smith, and a variety of artist performances. Radio personality Eddie Stubbs will serve as the show's announcer and Stuart's sidekick.
The Marty Stuart Show will begin production at Nashville's NorthStar Studios. When it begins airing in November, it will be part of the network’s new Sunday prime time lineup with HEE HAW, Postcards From Nebraska, and Music & Motors. RFD-TV is a rural lifestyle network broadcasting to 40 million homes across the country.
"I want to establish a show that gives a voice and stage to traditional country music," explains Stuart. "This show is about authenticity...from the artists who visit us in the studio every week to the people watching at home in America who enjoy watching weekly shows like The Porter Wagoner Show, The Wilburn Brothers and Flatt and Scruggs. This show will be related to that style of programming and hopefully entertain Country Fans in a similar way"
Also on the horizon for Stuart is the Nov. 11 release of his second photography book Country Music: The Masters, containing pictures of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Ray Charles and more. Meanwhile, an exhibit featuring his country music memorabilia entitled Sparkle and Twang Marty Stuart's American Odyssey will run Oct. 30, 2008 through March 1, 2009 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

08/25/2008
Capitol Records’ Lady Antebellum has played 50 shows in the last 60 days, including many fairs and festivals across the country. With all the crazy travel, band member Hillary Scott’s luggage keeps getting lost, so she has gotten resourceful when it comes to finding last minute stagewear. In this photo, she got a Brooklyn Fair Stage Crew T-shirt and cut it to fit. She jokes, “maybe I should start a clothing line and call it Hillary Scott's Fair Wear?????...haha!” Next the band travels to Los Angeles for its late night TV debut, performing “Lookin’ For A Good Time” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Aug. 27.
