Clark Named Sr. VP at SunTrust

SunTrust Banks has promoted Karen Clark, head of the group's Nashville office, to Sr. VP. As a 13-year veteran of the Nashville office, Clark has extensive experience serving clients in the entertainment industry. She was named head of SunTrust's Music Row Financial Center in February of 2004. Thomas M. Carroll has also been named as Managing Director of its Sports and Entertainment Banking Group. A SunTrust veteran with extensive experience in managing high net worth sporting industry client relationships, Carroll most recently served as the company's Wealth Services Manager for its Atlanta Region.

Brian Wright Upped to VP at UMG

Universal Music Group Nashville has promoted Brian Wright to VP of A&R. He has been with the company for over six years, most recently in the position of Sr. Director, A&R. He will report to Chairman Luke Lewis, who stated, “Brian has been one of the forces behind the scenes here for quite some time. His love and knowledge of country music are evident in everything he does and we look forward to hearing more great music coming from his direction.”

EU Pushes Deadline to Rule on UMG-BMG Merger

The European Commission has extended its deadline for ruling on the Vivendi-owned Universal Music Group purchase of BMG Music Publishing, currently owned by Bertelsmann AG. The deadline was pushed from April 27 to June 1, 2007, and no reason was given for the extention. In September 2006, Bertelsmann agreed to sell BMG Music Publishing to Vivendi for about $2.09 billion. The deal has been cleared by the US regulatory authorities.

Memarie Auctions Guitar for Make-A-Wish Foundation

While performing on King Cruise Agency's 4th Annual Country Cruise, Cupit recording artist, Memarie auctioned off her Taylor acoustic guitar (signed by all performers on the cruise). Memarie will make the generous donation of $2500 to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Kelly Godfrey and Richard Baker placed the winning bid. Pictured(L-R): Godfrey, Memarie and Baker.

Some Hearts Scores 5x Platinum

Reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood begins the New Year with the Quintuple Platinum certification of her 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville debut album, Some Hearts. The milestone earns Carrie the fastest 5x Platinum certification of any female country debut in history. With this accomplishment, Some Hearts has now become the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo female in the new millennium. Some Hearts is also the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo artist (male or female) since Tim McGraw’s Greatest Hits released in Nov. 2000. And with January 10 SoundScan information, Some Hearts earns the further distinction of becoming the best-selling, single-disc country album by any artist (solo, male, female, group, duo, etc.) since the Dixie Chicks’ Home released in August of 2002.

Montgomery Gentry Map Tour Dates

Montgomery Gentry’s 2007 tour and appearance schedule begins Jan. 16 in New York, NY with a visit to MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning. The duo then plays CBS’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Jan. 18 in Los Angeles. The Columbia artists have many dates booked at festivals and casinos running through late August.

Nashville Acts Among People’s Choice Faves

Nashville acts were among the big winners at the 33rd Annual People’s Choice Awards held in Los Angeles last night (1/09/07). Rascal Flatts won Favorite Remake and Favorite Song From A Movie for “Life Is A Highway,” featured in the film Cars. Carrie Underwood also won two—Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Country Song for “Before He Cheats.” On hand to perform “Young” for the audience, Kenny Chesney took home the Favorite Male Singer award. To celebrate Chesney’s win, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar had a case of his Cabo Wabo Tequila delivered backstage to the singer. CMT DukesFest 2007

CMT DukesFest will return to Nashville June 1-3, 2007 and will feature music, personal appearances by the stars of the Dukes of Hazzard, along with car stunts and more than 100 General Lees. The event, which last year drew over 70,000 fans, takes place at the Music City Motorplex at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Proceeds will go to the Children's Fund at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Advance tickets for the two-day event are $35, and one-day passes are $25. Military members and children 10 and under are free. Weekend passes are $40 at the gate and $30 for the day. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster outlets, Cooter's Place store and at The Music City Motorplex.
