EMI Looking Into Outsourcing?

Sarah Skates – 11/03/2008

EMI is considering outsourcing in the U.S. as a way to cut costs, since two weeks ago it posted an annual loss of £757 million ($1.5 billion). Reputable news outlets are reporting different versions of the possible move, ranging from outsourcing U.S. distribution, sales and marketing operations through WMG, Sony, or UMG—which could save $300 million per year—to outsourcing only CD distribution to a retailer like Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

UMG is already handling CD manufacturing in the U.S. for EMI. In Southeast Asia, WMG is handling EMI’s distribution and marketing operations.

Sarah Skates – 11/03/2008

Victor Sansone

Today (11/3) is Victor Sansone’s last day before he retires. The longtime ABC radio executive currently works as President/GM of KSCS/Dallas. In an e-mail sent this morning, he says, “I have been blessed to have worked for one of the greatest broadcast groups on the planet for the last 32 years and I can look back at some wonderful memories and accomplishments. This last week, after a birthday of significance [62nd] it became clear that I have had just about enough fun and I am more than ready to retire to a more shiftless lifestyle….I have thought long and hard about this, and while hard to say goodbye, I have many new memories to make with my family.” He can be reached at vsansone@mac.com.
