Phil Vassar’s new album Greatest Hits, Volume 1 is a career-spanning collection of 15 tracks which includes three new songs and fan favorites like “Carlene,” “Just Another Day In Paradise,” “American Child,” “In A Real Love” and “I’ll Take That As A Yes.” The project also boasts new recordings of hit songs written by Phil and made famous by other performers. The album is filled with nothing but Top 10 songs, and nearly half of them made the trip all the way to the top of the charts. Written and recorded specifically for this new project are songs like “Twenty One,” which Phil describes as his new life story, and current single “The Woman In My Life.” The first hit single from the album, “The Last Day of My Life,” was inspired by the death of close friend and songwriter Robert Byrne. Phil penned the song to share the message that every day is a gift because, he says, ”You’re not guaranteed anything.” On the project Vassar also reconnects with hit songs he wrote that launched his first years of success in Nashville. Included are Phil’s own heartfelt recordings of “My Next Thirty Years” and “For a Little While” (hits for Tim McGraw), “Little Red Rodeo” (a hit for Collin Raye), and “Bye, Bye” and “I’m Alright” (hits for Jo Dee Messina). For the first time on CD, listeners can hear the songs the way they were originally written and conceived. Phil sees his new album as a chance to do what some of his favorite composers have done. He says, “I always like to hear the songwriter do the song. Nobody does a song better than the songwriter. Especially if they lived it and breathed it. That’s where the best songs come from.”
