Pat Green is ready to take his music to the masses with his upcoming debut for BNA Records, Cannonball. “I feel like this album is a home run,” Green says. “I wanted to take our brand of independent music and give it a fresh shot at making a bigger impact. That’s exactly what I think we’ve accomplished when I hear these songs.”
When cutting new tracks like “Dixie Lullaby,” “Way Back Texas,” “Love Like That” and the rowdy title cut, Green aimed to be concise and direct, while maintaining his unique musical personality. “I think this is the most thoughtful and consistent record we’ve made,” he adds. “I don’t like using words like ‘mature’ or ‘grown-up,’ because I’m still a kid at heart. I’m a father, and I have to make the right decisions, so I think the balance of wanting to stay youthful yet live right comes through on these songs.”
The longtime Texas music hero has built a career through grassroots support and everyman appeal. “We have definitely gone about things differently from the start,” he explains. He developed an enthusiastic and devoted following through hard work, live performances and good word-of-mouth.
While Green’s songs are often appealing to nontraditional country music fans, he also offers a carefree, sing-along-with-me quality with major mass appeal. Cannonball finds a compelling way to merge the two worlds and Green sees this as a career album.
“I think everybody has their own story to tell. For me, the only thing that works is trying to make sense out of the world around me and the life I’m living. Honesty is the only way to go for me.” He adds, “I want my music to be reasonably intelligent, but I also want it to be interesting and fun. I just want to tell my tale from the tallest mountain and with the loudest megaphone I can find.”
