Dierks Bentley’s meteoric rise in the country format was propelled by his energetic and inquisitive debut single, “What Was I Thinkin’?,” but it’s obvious the curly-haired singer from Phoenix,Ariz., has been thinking about his career for a long time. These days he’s thinking about a gold record and his third consecutive radio hit—”How Am I Doin’?”

Bentley, who moved to Nashville at 19, immersed himself in both the music and the business scenes of Music City. He found a musical home at the Station Inn and learned the nuts and bolts of the business by interning at the CMA and working at TNN. “I discovered a whole community of musicians and singers who played music for all the right reasons,” he says of his time at the Station Inn. He wants to spread the word to the rest of the country about Nashville’s vibrant music scene.

“I feel like I represent a side of Nashville that a lot of people outside of the city don’t know about,” he says. “All the guys and girls that play downtown on Lower Broadway and all the bluegrassers that get together for pickin’ parties. That’s the Nashville I know and the Nashville I hope to bring attention to through my music.
