Kellie Coffey was recently a centerpiece of Disney’s worldwide marketing campaign, singing its new theme song “Sharing A Dream Come True.” Could there be a more apt song for the reigning ACM Best New Female vocalist? Over the past few years, Coffey has had a succession of dreams come true—she fell in love and got married, landed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell and a record deal with BNA. She’s also had a Top Ten single and a top five album sales debut.

Coffey attributes much of her success to her family. She says, “When I was a little girl, my dad always said to me, ‘You are a singer.’”

After attending college at Oklahoma University she made the move to Los Angeles to pursue a singing career. She began getting demo work and eventully met Judy Stakee of Warner/Chappell. She signed with the publishing company and began seeking a record deal. Soon after, she received a call from RCA’s Renee Bell, who invited her to come in for a meeting. She sang three songs in the RCA conference room and was quickly signed to a development deal with the label. She soon began working on her debut album, When You Lie Next To Me, with producer Dan Huff. Her latest single, “Texas Plates,” is off her as-yet-untitled second album. With an opening slot on George Strait’s upcoming tour it’s full steam ahead for Coffey in 2004.
