Patty Loveless’ latest album, On Your Way Home, is both a look back and a look forward. It finds her continuing the exploration of her musical roots that begin on her last disc, Mountain Soul. Both records delve into the high lonesome bluegrass sound that was a trademark of some of Loveless’ early work.
Lovesless says, “Music, for me, is history. Yours, mine, ours. It’s about where we come from.”
She didn’t, however, intend to rest on past accomplishments when putting her new record together. She turned to some of today’s top writers—Rodney Crowell, Matraca Berg, Marty Stuart, and Buddy Miller—for contemporary tunes that explore country music’s timeless themes of love, loss and longing.
The common thread that binds these songs together is realism. She says, “I always believe that I’ve got to convince the listener that I’ve experienced the song. Sincerity is everything.”
