Nickel Creek Reveals New Song, Tour

Nickel Creek

Nickel Creek

Bluegrass trio Nickel Creek kicked back to life today (Feb. 3) with the promise of a new album, a new song – “Destination” (listen below) – and a string of eight tour dates posted to their official website.
The announcement was echoed on the band’s recently created Twitter account. Two Nashville dates (April 18-19) at the Ryman Auditorium go on sale tomorrow (Feb. 4), at 10 a.m. local time. Dates also include New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., Oakland, and at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
The trio has been on a hiatus since the conclusion of the Farewell (For Now) tour, which ended Nov. 29, 2007 with two performances at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
During the hiatus, Thile was named a 2012 MacArthur Fellow while releasing multiple projects including a T Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack for Inside Llewyn Davis with his band, Punch Brothers. Sara Watkins and her brother Sean have, for years, held an informal residency in Los Angeles. Nonesuch released Sara Watkins, in 2009 and she has toured as a solo artist and as guest fiddle player/vocalist with the Decemberists, for Garrison Keillor‘s tour and broadcasts, and recently opened for Jackson Browne—joined by Sean. Sean Watkins formed the acoustic folk/pop band Fiction Family (alongside Jon Foreman of the band Switchfoot) and assembled the eight-member Americana group WPA (Greg Leisz, Benmont Tench, Pete Thomas, Davey Faragher, Glen Philips, Luke Bulla, and Sara Watkins), in addition to co-producing its self-titled record. This year, Watkins will release All I Do Is Lie, his first solo record in eight years.

Lizzie Sider Promotes Anti-Bullying Message Via Florida School Tour

lizzie sider

Lizzie Sider

Lizzie Sider is continuing her tour of elementary and middle schools in Florida where she is conducting her Bully Prevention Assembly at over 100 schools during January, February and March. The tour continues after a successful weekend in Nashville, where Sider performed the national anthem at the Nashville Predators game before taking the stage at the historic Bluebird Cafe.
“Bullying doesn’t just happen in October during Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, it happens all year,” says Sider. “As someone who understands what it is like to be bullied, I am on a mission to help anyone who doesn’t think anyone will listen.”
During the 30- to 40-minute assembly, Sider will encourage kids to help prevent bullying as she recounts her own personal journey as a young student being teased and ridiculed in elementary school, what it felt like, and how she tried to deal with it. In addition, Sider discusses the importance of everyone standing up to stop bullying. She will also perform her original song “Butterfly,” which Sider co-wrote about her experience. Her goal is to help kids as a positive role model, having risen above her own ridicule, to pursue a career in music.
As a spokesperson for PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, Sider visited over 80 schools in California before starting her school tour in Florida.

The tribute album will show off the band’s quality songwriting with fresh takes on their classic hits. Among the artists confirmed for the tribute album are LeAnn Rimes, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band and Cassadee Pope.

At the end of the day, that’s what will stand the test of time.”
Borchetta further noted that “the initial response from the announcement of this album has been overwhelming. There are a lot of artists asking to be included and we look forward to finalizing plans for the project over the next few weeks.”

War Memorial Auditorium has expanded to a 2,000+ capacity with an open-floor configuration.
“WMA always has been a first-rate performance hall, offering superior live concert experiences,” said Brent Hyams, COO at War Memorial Auditorium. “We are extremely excited to have the capacity close to what it was when the venue first opened in 1925. Originally, the capacity was 2,200, and that was reduced shortly thereafter to 1,661. Patrons consistently pack the house, and we are pleased to be able to kick up the energy with this recalculation.”
War Memorial Auditorium’s new venue capacity is 2,044. Prior to the increase in capacity, the theatrical configuration allowed for a maximum capacity of 1,789. The reconfiguration adds 255 tickets available for standing room on the floor.
