Gary LeVox and his wife Tara hosted a casino night and fashion show fundraiser honoring their friend, breast cancer survivor Ami Parker. Proceeds from Let It Ride!, held Oct. 3 at the Gibson Entertainment Relations Showroom, benefitted Saint Thomas Foundation Center for Breast Health. Keith Urban and songwriter/producer Monty Powell will perform Nov. 28 in Atlanta to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The show at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre will be their first public performance together. Powell launched the Better Start Livin' initiative with the Alzheimer's Association’s Georgia Chapter, and the Alzheimer's Society of Atlanta after losing his father to the disease. Named for a line in his hit song “Days Go By,” the organization raises funds and awareness through intimate storytelling concerts, allowing the focus to be on the message. Patron tickets ($300) include premium seating and the Alzheimer's Champions Party with the Stars following the concert. Dierks Bentley, The Grascals, and Ricky Skaggs will perform at a benefit concert for respected musician and Vanderbilt mandolin professor Butch Baldassari who is battling cancer. The lineup also includes Shawn Camp, Kathy Chiavola, John Cowan, Bela Fleck, Tony McManus, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble, Maura O’Connell with John Mock, Mark O’Connor, and Three Ring Circle. The concert is at 7 PM on Mon., Oct. 22 at the Martha Rivers Ingram Performing Arts Center at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. Twangin’ Tuesdays at the Tennessee State Museum continues Oct. 16 with performances by Kentucky Headhunters lead singer Doug Phelps, Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Louvin, and hit songwriters Amanda and Kim Williams. The monthly show, which runs from 6-8 PM, celebrates the museum’s latest exhibition, Sparkle and Twang: Marty Stuart’s American Musical Odyssey. A $5 donation for the show benefits the Tennessee State Museum Foundation and includes access to the exhibit.
The 3rd Annual Hike for the Homeless benefiting the Safe Haven Family Shelter takes place Sat., Oct. 13 at Edwin Warner Park (Picnic Shelters 9 and 11). Registration starts at 9 AM, with the hike from 10 AM-noon. There will be two 2-3 mile easy paved trails to choose from. Registration is $20 in advance at www.safehaven.org, or $25 the day of. Children 10 and under are free. There will be other family activities and a free continental breakfast and lunch.
